About This Project

A collaborative, evidence-based record of the Maltby family and the lines that joined them — built by the family, for the family.

Sorting through old family photographs and records

How it began

Ray and Betty Maltby spent decades gathering the family's history — photographs, letters, birth records, death notices, and stories passed down from relatives near and far. The result was one of the most complete genealogies of the Maltby family and its connected lines, assembled with patience and care over a lifetime.

Harry Maltby continued their work. This site carries it forward — adding the family's ongoing contributions, correcting gaps, and making the record accessible to every branch of the family.

How it works

Every recorded fact is attributed: who added it, when, and on what evidence. When family members disagree, both views are preserved — the record never erases a minority claim. Uncertainty is first-class: "born around 1920" or "born in Detroit or Brighton, Michigan" are stored honestly, not smoothed over.

Photos, stories, oral histories, and life events live alongside the raw facts. An AI assistant can browse the record through a dedicated MCP endpoint, letting family members ask questions like "who are my last five paternal ancestors?" and get grounded, sourced answers.

Privacy

Living family members' details are kept private. Public visitors can see skeletal records — names, dates, and relationships — for those long deceased. Photos, stories, traits, and anything richer require signing in as family. We honor living members by keeping their details out of public view entirely.

How to contribute

If you're family and want to add, correct, or reinforce records, ask a site administrator for an invitation. Once signed in, you can submit facts with your evidence, upload photos, write stories, and reinforce or dispute what others have recorded. Every contribution is attributed to you and carries your trust weight.

Sign in if you already have a link, or contact the administrator to request access.

About the data

The family's record started with a genealogy database assembled in the 1990s, covering around 12,900 people. It has since grown through Family Tree Maker files, Ancestry trees, and direct family contributions. Where source files disagreed, we recorded both versions and let the family weigh in.
